How to download your TikTok data

A complete walkthrough for requesting your TikTok data export — every favorited video, every like, every repost. Once you have the file, UnplugMe turns it into a real local archive on your hard drive.

Time to request: 2 minutes Wait time: a few hours to 4 days Where to do it: the TikTok mobile app (most reliable) or tiktok.com

What you'll get

TikTok's official "Download your data" feature gives you a single JSON file (or ZIP with a JSON inside) containing your account activity. Inside, you'll find:

Important: TikTok's export gives you direct download links only for your own posts. Videos you've favorited or liked are referenced as URLs only — UnplugMe handles the rest.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Open the TikTok app Launch the TikTok mobile app and make sure you're signed in to the account whose data you want to archive. The mobile app's export flow is faster and more reliable than the web version.

  2. Tap your Profile Tap Profile in the bottom-right of the navigation bar to open your account.
  3. Open Settings and privacy Tap the menu icon (☰) in the top-right of your profile, then tap Settings and privacy.

  4. Go to Account Tap Account at the top of the settings list. This is where account-level options live, including data downloads.
  5. Tap "Download your data" In the Account screen, tap Download your data. You'll see two tabs: Request data and Download data. Make sure you're on the Request data tab.

  6. Choose the file format TikTok offers two formats: JSON (machine-readable, recommended) and TXT (plain text, not useful for tools). Pick JSON — UnplugMe requires it.
  7. Choose the data scope Choose All data for the most complete archive. If you want only specific categories, choose Custom and check at minimum: Likes and Favorites, Profile and Settings, Post, Your Activity.
  8. Tap "Request data" Confirm the request. TikTok will queue your export and process it in the background.
Heads up: TikTok's queue can take longer than Instagram's — anywhere from a few hours to 4 days depending on your account size. You won't get an email; you'll get an in-app notification, and the file will appear under the "Download data" tab when it's ready.
  9. Come back when notified TikTok will notify you in-app when your data is ready. You can also check by returning to Settings and privacy › Account › Download your data › Download data — when ready, the file will be listed there with a download button.
  10. Download the file Tap the download icon. The file is active for 4 days — download it before it expires. If you missed the window, just request again.

  11. Transfer the file to your computer Since the file downloads to your phone, you'll need to move it to your computer to use with UnplugMe. Easiest options: AirDrop (iOS to Mac), email it to yourself, or upload to your cloud drive and download on desktop.
Tip: On iOS, the file lands in the Files app. Long-press it and tap Share → AirDrop or Save to Files → iCloud Drive.
  12. Open the file with UnplugMe Drop the file (or its ZIP) into the UnplugMe extension. We auto-detect TikTok exports and parse everything in your browser — no upload, no waiting.

Now turn it into an archive

Drop your TikTok export into UnplugMe. The extension reads it locally and shows you everything you've favorited, liked, and reposted — ready to download.
