Easy TikTok Video Downloader is the most popular TikTok saving tool on the Chrome Web Store — around 20,000 users and a 4.8-star rating across more than 5,500 reviews. Those numbers are earned. It's a good tool at what it does.
So this is not a hit piece. It's a breakdown of two genuinely different approaches to the same problem — "I want the videos I favorited saved on my hard drive" — and which approach fits which job. We made the same kind of comparison for Instagram tools, and the same architecture question is at the center: does the tool scroll the app, or does it read your data export?
What Easy TikTok Video Downloader does well
Its approach: you browse TikTok normally, and the extension collects videos from the pages you're on — your likes, favorites, reposts, a creator's profile, playlists, search results. Click download and it saves them, preferring no-watermark and HD sources when TikTok provides them.
The genuine strengths:
- Instant start. Install, open TikTok, click. No data export request, no waiting for an email. This is the single biggest advantage of any scroll-based tool, and it's a real one.
- It downloads things UnplugMe can't. A single video you just watched. Someone else's public profile. Search results. UnplugMe deliberately only archives content you saved, liked, or favorited, from your own export — it won't bulk-grab another person's profile. If one-off grabbing is the job, Easy TikTok is the right tool.
- v5 polish. Pause and resume, download history export, auto-scroll bulk mode, smart file naming. It's an actively maintained extension (v5.2.0 as of this writing).
- Free. UnplugMe is $23 one-time after 50 free downloads. If you spend money on neither and just want a handful of videos, the free tool wins on price. That's not close.
Where scroll-based favorites downloading hits the wall
The tradeoff shows up when the job is completeness — archiving everything you've ever favorited, not just grabbing videos.
The ceiling. Every scroll-based downloader works by driving the live app: open the favorites page, scroll, collect what renders. Platforms rate-limit exactly this pattern, on every platform. It's why Instagram scroll tools stall around the 5,000-post mark. TikTok does the same thing to rapid automated scrolling of likes and favorites. If you've been favoriting for years, the tool that scrolls can stall partway through — and you often only find out by comparing what's on your hard drive to what's in the app.
The list is only what the app shows you. When you scroll your favorites, you scroll whatever the app puts in front of you right now. Items can age out of that view, and private or deleted videos vanish from it entirely. Your data export contains the complete record — every favorite ever, generated from the platform's own database — because that's what the export is.
The run lives in a tab. The collection happens on live TikTok pages. v5's pause/resume helps, but you're still driving a browser session through thousands of items.
How UnplugMe's approach differs
UnplugMe takes the official data export route: you request your TikTok data (a built-in settings feature), TikTok emails you a ZIP, and UnplugMe reads every favorite, like, repost, and own post from it — usually thousands of entries parsed in about a second. Then it downloads the actual videos using the session you're already signed in with.
What that buys you:
- No ceiling. The export is a complete list by definition. If you favorited it in 2019, it's in the file.
- It remembers. Run it again next month and it skips everything already on your drive, downloading only what's new. Your archive stays current with one click per export.
- Background-friendly. Downloads are paced deliberately and run in the extension's service worker — the same architecture that lets a 15,000-post Instagram run continue after interruption.
And the honest costs, because there are real ones:
- The export wait. TikTok takes anywhere from minutes to about 48 hours to deliver your data file. Scroll tools start instantly. If you need three videos right now, that's the wrong trade.
- Export links expire. The media URLs inside an export are signed and die within days. Request the export, then run UnplugMe promptly against it — an export that sits in your downloads folder for a month is a list of dead pointers.
- Some videos simply can't be fetched. Age-gated or bot-checked videos may come back unavailable. If a video was deleted by its creator, no tool can recover it.
- No single-video mode. UnplugMe archives your saved content. It is not a general-purpose TikTok downloader, on purpose.

Which one should you use?
Use Easy TikTok Video Downloader if: you want a specific video, a creator's profile, or a quick batch from your recent favorites — right now, for free.
Use UnplugMe if: the job is "everything I've ever favorited, on my hard drive, forever" — especially if you've been on TikTok for years, if you also want your Instagram saves and X likes archived, or if a scroll tool has already stopped partway and you need the complete list.
They're not actually competitors for most jobs — plenty of people will want both: the free tool for day-to-day grabbing, UnplugMe as the complete archive that re-runs against each new export and only adds what's new.
One warning applies no matter which tool you pick: deleted is deleted. The export proves what you saved; it can't bring back videos the creator removed. The only backup that works is the one you run before the content disappears.
UnplugMe is a personal data portability tool. It reads your official data export and downloads content you already have access to, using your own authenticated session — nothing leaves your device. UnplugMe is not affiliated with TikTok or ByteDance, and Easy TikTok Video Downloader is a product of its own developer, mentioned here for comparison. First 50 downloads are free — get the extension.
